Why Fast Weight Loss Will Not Result In Effective Weight Loss

If you search the internet for information about effective weight loss, you may well become confused. There is a great deal of information that is conflicting and misleading.

You will see that diet companies speak almost exclusively about losing weight fast. Little is said about effective weight loss. Yet, people seem to want both.

Is it possible to achieve both from 1 diet?

To answer that question, I think that both must be defined.

Definitions

You and I may have different definitions for effective weight loss. I would like to share mine. I think that a diet is effective, when it enables you to lose weight and keep it off.

Scientific research reveals that if you lose more than 1-2 pounds in a week on a diet, you are likely to put the weight back on when you come off the diet.

Therefore, I define a fast weight loss diet as a diet in which you lose more than 1-2 pounds in a week.

What Prompts People To Lose Weight?

For many people, the trigger is the unwanted fat they see in the mirror on a daily basis. When it bothers them enough, they decide to go on a diet.

However, you dont lose fat just by dieting. There is only one way to lose fat and that is by exercising. A good diet will help you to lose fat faster, when you exercise. But you wont lose fat by diet alone.

What Happens On A diet That Gets You To Lose Weight Fast?

You can lose a lot of weight. A majority of the ads for these diets, promise that you can lose 5-10 pounds per week. You can achieve that on these diets. Your scales will confirm that.

However, the weight that you will lose will be from a loss of water from your body, which will reduce your muscle mass. It will not come from fat loss.

When you come off the diet, your body will automatically replenish its water level to the level it needs to function correctly. Your scales will then confirm that you have regained the weight.

This is an ineffective way to lose weight.

Use Your Mirror To Measure Your Progress, Not Your Scales

When you lose fat, you will also lose weight. But when you lose weight, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have lost fat.

If you decide to lose weight because of the unwanted fat you see in the mirror, measure your progress by how much less fat you see in the mirror. It is a better measuring stick.

Dont be hypnotized by what your scales say. Go for fat loss. It results in effective weight loss.
